Audience of ourselves

Everyday social contexts demand us to reflexively alter our identities by interpreting how we’re viewed by others. Though this typically doesn’t present us with immediate threats, we often construe social behavior as a threat to our own intrinsic sense of value. Prolonged attention to how we might appear to others can color even our most private thoughts, leading us to be our own observer we want to shirk from. Audience of Ourselves presents a context where one’s desire to reflexively and socially represent oneself is diminished through a familiar and private environment.

As the viewer is lead to interact with the environment, however, the shower begins to present the viewer with an immediate obstacle: the viewer’s tendency to objectify oneself, despite being safely concealed around a curtain.
