statement

Each day we move through a world much vaster and much more minuscule then we could hope to perceive or understand. Information swarms our senses and rarely do we slow down to question what we’re receiving and what we miss. The truth of single object, like a lemon, is inexhaustible. It’s both it’s taste, it’s seeds, it’s color, it’s rind, it’s genetic information and everything one could classify about a lemon or poetically wax. Analyzing the way our perception is both true, false and shifting, is an continuous process of sense-making and acceptance of unknowing. In that way I see art as analogous to an intentional life that interrogates our place in the world and synthesizes experience and research in to communication.

To explore concepts of scale, perception, ecology, and media theory as an artist I choose to engage a variety of mediums. Animation, time-based media, and video takes the forefront in my work. But I equally write poetry, design web art, make sculpture, create performance pieces (often resulting in video), research and curate.

Two of my recent pieces include, the short film “A Problem” made under the material constraint of LEMON and an interactive drone stop-motion performance titled “circlers”. Both pieces utilize stop-motion and deal with issues around perception. For instance how do you identify objects/problems/the other and how does the tool or vantage point change the process?
